12 December 2023 Melitopol

We have been living under occupation from the very beginning. We spent 2 months “in the basement” (a slang phrase that means to be unlawfully arrested by Russians – translator). I had been there from mid-November until mid-January. My husband is still there – for almost a year now. He was arrested because he served in the Ukrainian army in the past and participated in the ATO (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joint_Forces_Operation_(Ukraine)) in 2014 and 2017. They also found “weapons” at our home.

Hiding behind the “referendum” and using their excuse for the law Russians opened a case against my husband and are going to try him in court. They offered my husband the chance to cooperate. If he had agreed, he would be home by now. But when he refused, they quickly filed a case.

I’m trying to keep a low profile, wait, and support my husband. Where would I go?
