In Yalta, it is not customary to express one’s opinion about the war or one’s attitude toward it. I don’t really know what opinion most of my acquaintances have.
A nice guy whom I recently met invited me for coffee. I wasn’t sure if I should go or not – I needed to figure out somehow what kind of person he was. There are already enough vatniks (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vatnik) in my life so I came up with a question: “Where do you get your news?”
It looks like a safe, innocent question, but actually it’s enough to learn a lot about one’s opinions.
To cut a long story short, we didn’t meet for coffee.
